Van insurance customers warned about LEZ rules
30 December 2011

Van insurance customers have been urged not to fall foul of new Low Emission Zone (LEZ) legislation that is being introduced across parts of London.
The government has brought in the law in order to cut down on pollution levels in the city and as of January 3rd 2012, drivers of lorries and vans that are not eco-friendly will be charged heavily for travelling around the capital.
Bosses at the Freight Transport Association (FTA) have warned those who own vans that are Y-Reg or older that they could be hit with large penalties if they disobey the new regulations.
The FTA's head of policy for London Natalie Chapman said that the penalties are so high that "non-compliance is not an option".
"For many small businesses and sole traders, 2011 has been all about keeping afloat and the looming LEZ changes may catch them out," she remarked.
Transport for London recently announced that HGV or van drivers who can prove they have purchased the necessary filters to ensure their vehicles meet the standards set by the LEZ will not be punished if they are not fitted before the January 3rd deadline.
