Plug-in van grant 'attractive choice for businesses'

The government's new plug-in van grant offers many benefits to enterprises that take out van insurance and purchase an ultra low-carbon vehicle, it has been claimed.

Business minister Mark Prisk explained that as well as saving money on the initial purchase of the motor, companies will see lower overall running costs and receive tax benefits.

Those operating in London will also be exempt from paying the capital's congestion charge.

However, it is not only the enterprises themselves that the grant will affect, as Mr Prisk claimed it benefits the rest of the UK.

"Vans are essential to the smooth running of so many businesses and contribute enormously to the UK economy," he stated.

The minister said the seven vehicles that are eligible for the scheme are "easy on the eye" and should be within budget for most firms.

To qualify, vans must meet European safety standards, emit less than 75g/km CO2, reach speeds of at least 50mph and be able to travel at least 60 miles between each charge.
