WSB Round Twelve - Imola Preview
23 September 2010

A look ahead to the penultimate WSB round of the
season
This is now round twelve of the 2010 World Superbike
Championships. The races will take place at the Italian track of
Imola this weekend and the Althea Racing team riders will be
looking to run two strong races in front of the Italian crowds.
Express Insurance Sponsored Shane 'Shakey' Byrne will be looking
to put in a strong performance at the Italian team's home track.
Shakey is continuing to push with every round of the World
Superbike Championships as he is striving to find his form again
after suffering an injury to his hand in an earlier practice
session. This weekend he will surely be aiming to achieve a top
five finish, which will be his best result of the season after
previously taking two sixth place finishes at both Portimao and
Miller Motorsports Park. On race day this weekend, Shakey will hope
to close his season positively and be riding up amongst the
frontrunners. Shakey showed that he can keep pace with the best
last time he was riding at the Italian track of Imola and on
Sunday, he will again have the opportunity to show his full
potential.
Shanes Althea Ducati team mate Carlos Checa will be looking to
keep up with his current run of form and finish in the top three.
Morale is high in the Althea camp after the recent success in
Germany and Checa knows he has a quick bike and a strong team
around him, with which he plans to conclude his season in the best
possible way.
Genesio Bevilacqua, the General Manager of Althea Racing said he
is confident ahead of the races on Sunday and commented: "The great
results achieved in the Pirelli tests stand us in good stead. We
weren't able to try the development tyres on that occasion as we
are not a factory team but despite this we were able to do a great
job with both Carlos and Shane. With Checa, we will try to close
the season in the best possible way, defending fourth position in
the championship or even improving on it. With Shane we'll try to
do better than ever. We're confident because our bike has reached a
high level from the performance point of view, we've closed the gap
that existed at first between us and the other teams and now we
know that we can fight with the best of them."
Shakey will also be joined in Italy by Express Insurance prize
draw winner Robert Nott from Weston-Super-Mare. The lucky 36 year
old will be travelling to Italy to witness all of the action
live!
Congratulations from all at Express!
