Shakey secures 9th and 8th place finishes
respectively
After a promising start in practice and qualifying, it was not a
particularly satisfying race day for the Althea Ducati Racing Team.
Express Insurance sponsored Shakey Byrne and his team mate Carlos
Checa finished the days racing having taken fifteen points per
head, but were not overall satisfied with the days racing.
Shakey had some issues with his Ducati out on the new track
today, taking ninth and eighth positions in the two races. He
commented: "They were very difficult races. In the first I had tyre
problems that prevented me from doing any better. In the second we
sorted the bike and changed the tyre and it went better. Then
towards the end I found myself battling against Guintoli but he was
faster than me and I missed out on seventh position."
Byrnes team mate Carlos Checa did not make a strong start in
either race leaving him with seventh and tenth positions from the
days two races.
The Althea Ducati Racing Teams General Manager, Genesio
Bevilacqua, declared: "It was pretty obvious that there was a
difference between us and the protagonists. During the weekend we
tried various configurations regarding suspension and set-up but we
didn't find what we were looking for. Starting from further back it
was not easy to catch the leading group; the others were stronger
than us today. However, from Nurburgring we want to maintain a good
level so as to finish as well as we can in the standings, by taking
as many points for Ducati as possible."
