WSB Round Ten - Silverstone Preview
28 July 2010

All eyes on Silverstone for WSB Round 10 this
weekend
This weekend it is Round Ten of the World Superbike Championship
and Express Insurance Sponsored Shane Byrne, now fully recovered
from his previous injury, will be looking to take full advantage of
the opportunity to race on home soil, in front of thousands of
spectators.
This year, the British Round of the Superbike World Championship
takes place at the revised 3.666 mile Silverstone Grand Prix
Circuit and with only three rounds of the season remaining after
Silverstone, Shane Byrne will surely be aiming to take as many
points into round 11 as possible.
Shakey looks to deliver in Great Britain
In round 9 at Brno, Czech Republic, Shakey took respectable
12th and 9th place finishes. On the back of
those encouraging results Shakey is looking to press forward in the
championship; "Now I'm banking on getting fully fit so I can be
totally prepared for Silverstone. No-one has ridden on the new
track yet and this could be an interesting factor as far as the
races are concerned."
All-Brit podium?
Shakey and the Althea Ducati racing team will be looking for a
podium finish at Silverstone and according to fellow Brit James
Toseland, we could see all three podium places occupied by British
riders. "There could be an all-British podium to celebrate,"
predicted Toseland, "the large local WSB contingent will look to
impress on home ground."
There are seven full-time British in the World Superbike line-up
this year, accounting for around a third of the WSB grid, and
riders and fans alike have been eagerly awaiting the race at
Silverstone this weekend.
Silverstone circuit ready for World Superbikes after
successful MotoGp
Richard Philips, who is the Managing Director of Silverstone
Circuits Limited, stated in an interview: "We are having an
incredible summer at Silverstone and now really looking forward to
having the World Superbikes back. It is a very vibrant series with
seven motorcycle manufacturers involved. With our seven British
riders, plus some British wild-cards, there will be plenty of
excitement for the fans.
I think that the success of the MotoGP racing at Silverstone in
June showed that the changes we have made to the track over the
winter work well for bikes. We have also worked hard to improve the
spectator experience here and so I expect good crowds, fantastic
racing and a great atmosphere."
There is plenty to keep the fans entertained this weekend with
three giant screens in full view around the Silverstone circuit.
There will also be a free funfair, stunt displays by Craig Jones
and a Red Devils parachute display.
With Shakey out to impress it should all make for a fantastic
weekend of bike sport action!
