Top Tips for the Express Insurance National Road Rally 2010
1 July 2010

Top Tips for your National Road Rally
experience!
To ensure your National Road Rally experience is the best possible
we thought we'd gather a selection of helpful hints and tips to
help rally particpants to get the most out of their NRR 2010
experience.
Read below for our top tips!
Planning is everything
Get your maps out and start planning if you haven't done already.
Time is won and lost in the planning stage more than anywhere else.
Don't aim to ride outside your tank/bum/bladder limits. Include
contingencies for your route, a good way to do this is to include
loops for extra controls. If you're going well you can include them
but if not you can cut them out and continue with your route.
Keep everyone at home updated
Share your experiences through Twitter and Facebook. The
official 'hashtag' for the weekend is #NRR2010. Tag your
tweets with that hashtag to make it easy for your followers and
other 'tweeters' competing in the rally to find your tweets.
Plus, we're giving away prizes for 3 of those who tweet, Facebook
message, or upload photos of the weekend. Remember, your
tweets must include #NRR2010 to be eligible!
It's not about speed
Going fast will not help you reach more controls. Ride steadily
and consistency and you'll do just fine. Speeding increases stress,
tiring you out quicker, as well as resulting in more fuel stops
which eat up more time.
Keep your mind active
And we don't mean coffee and energy drinks. These work in the
short term but will lead to you burning yourself out. If you're too
tired to continue without caffeine, then stop riding, you need a
break! Caffeine wil also result in more of those time wasting loo
breaks. Sour tasting sweets are good on long monotonous sections as
they wake your brain up, mental games you can play with yourself
help too, or best of all, plan an interesting route!
Stop before you need to
There's nothing worse than trying to ride 40 miles on reserve,
convinced you're going to run out of petrol at any given moment,
well actually running out of fuel would be worse. Same for loo and
food stops. Ride relaxed and within your means and you'll feel
better and ride smoother.
Enjoy yourself
This is the most important thing. You're doing this for fun
remember! Don't sweat a few minutes delay to look at a bike you
like or chat to some other competitors. This is why you're there,
so try not to forget this in the quest for more control points. The
journey is the destination.
