Sword puts in fine display as Bobreshev pushes for
title
The motocross riders were at Silverstone for the seventh round of
the championship and after a tough day of racing, Stephen Sword
(Buildbase CCM) scored his second consecutive win overall with a
first and two second places in the three moto's. After winning the
first race of the day, Sword had to give way to current champion,
Brad Anderson (PAR Honda) and much to everyone's surprise, Russian
rider Evgeny Bobreshev (CAS Honda) who was back on his bike just
one week after sustaining a serious injury in the Brazilian GP.
Sword's 1-2-2 positions were enough for him to take first position
on the podium.
Current champion Anderson is now 77 points behind current leader
Bobreshev and despite his best efforts has to admit that his chance
of retaining his championship is lost. Anderson only managed to
achieve two fifth positions along with his second race win. After
an excellent day on the track, Jason Dougan (Phoenix Tools Bike It
Cosworth Yamaha) made it onto the podium for the first time this
season with three strong third place finishes. This great result
moves him up to fourth in the series above an absent Garth
Swanepoel.
Osborne within a whisker of claiming
title
There was a heated battle in the first of the MX2 class races, with
HM Plant Red Bull KTM rider Jake Nicholls overtaking initial race
leader, Zach Osborne of the Bike It Cosworth Yamaha team. Osborne
was not going to be easily beaten and hit back with two wins in the
2nd and 3rd moto's. Nicholls continued to
push throughout the day and took two strong seconds, but the
American rider will now go into the last round of the championship
with a 47 point cushion. The third step of the MX2 podium went to
Superpole winner, Mel Pocock also riding the Bike It Cosworth
Yamaha with three strong races of 3-3-4.
Overall it was a good day and there was plenty of action for
spectators on the Silverstone circuit. The final round of the
championship will take place on October 3rd at the famous
Shropshire venue of Hawkstone Park.
