Maxxis MX Round Seven - Silverstone - Qualifying
29 August 2010

Osborne slips up in qualifying as rain holds
up
The track conditions had greatly improved today and although the
sky was overcast, there was no sign of any rain. Bike It Cosworth
Yamaha rider Mel Pocock took full advantage of the dry conditions
and was the highlight of the MX2 qualifying session. Pocock not
only won the Q1; just a fraction of a second faster than rival Zach
Osborne, he also went on to take the Q2 Superpole from HM Plant Red
Bull KTM rider Jake Nicholls. Osborne unfortunately had a poor Q2
session finishing nearly five seconds behind Pocock and will start
from 11th in the gate.
Samsung Maxxis Yamaha rider Neville Bradshaw took third ahead of
Martin Barr (PAR Honda). Henderson LPE Kawasaki rider Kristian
Whatley took fifth position in the gate and Privateer Alan Keet
rounded off the top six.
Drama as Sword crashes out in Superpole
session
There was yet more drama in the MX1 qualifying sessions with
Buildbase CCM riders Tom Church and Stephen Sword leading the field
in Q1 with Jason Dougan (Phoenix Tools Bike It Cosworth Yamaha)
grabbing third, just 2 seconds behind Sword. In the Superpole
session, Dougan pushed for the win, leaving Church in second place
on the grid. Current Champion Brad Anderson (PAR Honda) improved by
one place in the Superpole to take third. The biggest
disappointment of the Superpole was for Sword, who crashed and
finished in 12th and last position on the grid.
Bobreshev battles through pain barrier
The other big news of the weekend is that current MX1 leader
Evgeny Bobreshev (CAS Honda) is riding after he sustained an injury
at the Brazilian GP last week. It is apparent that the Russian is
not going to give up on his series lead easily and against the
advice of Team Principals, Harry Ainsworth and Neil Prince; he
decided that he was going to ride at Silverstone. On a demanding
circuit he finished in a respectable fifth position in the Q1
session, but slid down to ninth in the single lap Superpole
Session. It is evident that this round is very important to him and
every point he wins today could be vital with just six races
remaining.
