Maxxis MX Round Seven - Silverstone - Preview
25 August 2010

Silverstone prepares for British MX
action!
This weekend, it is Round Seven of the ACU Maxxis British
Motocross Championship and the destination for riders and fans
alike is the Silverstone circuit situated approximately 8 miles
from the M1 motorway. After 48 hours of rainfall left up to 60mm of
rain on the circuit, the ACU events team has been working all hours
to prepare the sodden track for the event on Sunday. Around 100,000
gallons of surface water has been pumped off the track and several
tonnes of woodchip has been delivered to improve parts of the track
which have been most affected.
The Series Manager, Brian Higgins said, "The team lost two days
earlier in the week through consistent rain and to be honest if the
weather forecast on Friday morning was not extremely good the event
would have been in jeopardy, but since Friday morning the circuit
is drying by the hour and, if necessary, work will continue through
the night to get it 100% ready by 9am Sunday.
Champions be crowned this weekend?
After establishing strong leads in the MX1 and MX2 classes, CAS
Honda rider Evgeny Bobreshev and Bike It Cosworth Yamaha rider Zach
Osborne, looked like they may be crowned champions at Silverstone
this Bank Holiday Sunday. However, after hearing the news that
current MX1 leader Bobreshev may be out for a few weeks with a
punctured lung, his championship rival Stephen Sword (Buildbase
CCM) has a golden opportunity to close the gap.
Sword is currently 37 points off the series leader, but
throughout the day, there are three motos, each worth 25 points for
a win, so he has a great chance of snatching the red plate off
Bobreshev who may have to watch defenseless from the sidelines.
Other top names in the MX1 class will be current Champion, Brad
Anderson, Gareth Swanepoel, Jason Dougan, Gordon Crockard, Tom
Church, James Noble, Alex Snow, Carl Nunn, Nathan Parker and Gert
Krestinov.
With the course drying out in the sun, there will be a good
circuit to race on when the meeting gets underway with the first
qualifying session at 9am. The start gate for the circuit has been
moved about 40 metres in an attempt to find dryer ground.
