Motorists consider retro-fitting to save fuel

As the ailing UK economy puts increasing pressure on household budgets, car insurance customers are doing all they can to save money - and reducing fuel bills is a top priority.

Rather that stumping up the cash for a new vehicle, however, drivers are becoming more interested in fuel-saving tactics that require less of an initial outlay.

According to TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk, more than three-quarters of car insurance policyholders have considered retro-fitting their vehicles to improve fuel efficiency and reduce their motoring bills.

The website claims that doing a little bit of tinkering under the bonnet could improve their vehicles' performance and reduce the amount they spend on fuel in the long-run. Experts from the organisation even suggested modifying engines and shifting to biofuel or LPG.

However, if engines are not your strong suit, it could be worth your while making other simple changes - like removing bike and luggage racks when they are not in use, ensuring tyres are properly inflated and keeping your vehicle well maintained.
