Fraudulent car insurance claims are on the rise

Motorists are increasingly making fraudulent car insurance claims in order to have their policies pay for regular wear and tear, it has been claimed.

This trend was pointed out by Swiftcover.com, which noted that drivers were getting garages to carry out repair work unrelated to their claims.

It was also found that dishonest motorists were asking technicians to carry out a MOT check on their vehicles and then going ahead to claim it for free on their car insurance policies.

The news follows from another recent piece of research carried out by Co-operative Insurance (CI), which revealed that these fraudulent claims have led to a rise in insurance costs, pushing expenses to £1.25 billion a year.

Tim Franklin, chief operating officer at CI, said: "Millions of people are deliberately flouting the law by not insuring their cars at massive cost to honest road users."
