Staffordshire campaign 'focuses on bike safety'
6 July 2012
A new campaign in Staffordshire has cut down on motorcycle insurance in the area and reduced the number of accidents suffered on the county's roads, according to the area's local council.
The Ride it Right campaign, coordinated by Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership, started in 2005 as a way of impressing the importance of safety measures on to bikers across the county.
It has been a success, with accidents caused by motorbikes down by 40 per cent on a year-on-year basis in 2011, reports the Burton Mail.
There has been a reduction of between 37 per cent and 55 per cent annually since the scheme's induction.
Mike Maryon, the county council's cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "These latest figures are extremely encouraging and are a testament to the hard work and dedication that we have put in to making our roads as safe as possible."
The Motorcycle Industry Association recently suggested that taking an advanced training scheme can help bikers feel more confident on the road.
