Motorcycling adds £3bn to UK economy, says MCI
9 March 2010

Motorcycle insurance customers
have learned that as the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI)
celebrates its centenary year in 2010, research indicates that
motorcycling supports nearly £3 billion in added value to the UK
economy.
MCI research has found that the UK industry employs more than
62,000 people and turns over more than £5 billion in sales
annually, to a total value of £2.75 billion in added value.
The organisation is continuing to push for legislative changes for
the benefit of motorcycle insurance
customers, including on the Third Driving Licence Directive
scheduled for 2013.
"Safe riders in a growing market place can only have positive
economic benefits and increase the motorcycle industry's
contribution to UK PLC in both monetary and social terms," said
Steve Kenward, spokesperson for MCI.
Last month, prime minister Gordon Brown acknowledged the
importance of motorcycling in the UK, committing to answer
Conservative MP Anne Main's questions regarding multi-purpose test
centres.
