Century old motorbike could be worth £50k
28 December 2011

A century-old motorbike - which could prove a nightmare for its owner to find bike insurance for - could sell for as much as £50,000.
Little more than a pushbike with a motor attached, the vehicle was created in 1906 and is based on an Indian Camelback pushbike.
It is believed to be the first ever, two-wheeled, motor powered vehicle in the world.
Unfortunately, the bike is in desperate need of some care and attention, as in its current rusty state it is definitely un-roadworthy.
The bike has a single cylinder engine boasting 2.25 horsepower and has a top speed of 30 mph - about the same as a pedal powered bike.
However, if it is restored, taking it out for a spin may be ill-advised as the vehicle has no brakes and the only way to stop the thing is to pedal backwards.
Ben Walker from Bonhams, which is selling the bike, said: "These motorcycles have never really reduced in value - if I filled a whole sale with them they would all go for good prices."
At the other end of the scale, Richard Brown, from Jet Reaction, is hoping to break the land speed record for a two-wheeled vehicle on his rocket-powered motorbike, which he will take for a spin on the Bonneville salt flats next year.
Express are as mad about bikes as you are, so why not get a bike insurance quote and see what we can do for you?
