Bus lanes to be opened to motorcylists in London
22 December 2011

Motorcycle insurance customers travelling through the capital in the new year will be allowed to use many of the city's bus lanes.
As of January 23rd 2012 bikers will share access to London's many red routes, which Transport for London (TfL) expects to ease congestion in the capital.
The move comes after two successful 18-month trials.
Ben Plowden, TfL's director of better routes and places, said: "The results of our latest trial show that the Mayor’s policy of providing access to bus lanes along some of the busiest roads in London has delivered strong benefits for motorcyclists."
He added that as well as improving journey times, the move to open up bus lanes to other road users had positive environmental benefits.
Mr Plowden also highlighted the safety benefits for bikers, who are considered to be vulnerable road users.
Recently, bike insurance customers were urged to take extra care on the roads during windy conditions in light of the gale force winds that have been experienced in certain parts of the country in recent weeks.
